Windows Vista Sidebar For Windows XP

Posted by cracksandhacks on December 1, 2008

One of the more visible changes of the Windows Vista operating system was the Windows Vista Sidebar which made it possible to put so called gadgets on the Windows.Gadgets are
small applications that can display all kinds of information such as RSS
news feeds, contacts or system information.

Many Windows Vista users like the Windows
Sidebar, others feel that it is to restricted to one part of the screen. Microsoft has already announced that they will change that behavior in Windows 7 so that users can place gadgets wherever they want on the desktop.

It was only a matter of time until someone would port the Windows Vista Sidebar to Windows XP. Joshoon managed to port the real Windows
Sidebar to
Windows XP by making use of Alky For application. You might remember Alky from the time when Windows Vista came out. That was at the same time when Microsoft announced Vista only applications and Alky was supposed to make them compatible with Windows XP (like the games Shadowrun or Halo 2)

The pack includes three different applications that are needed to install, display and maintain the Windows Vista Sidebar in Windows XP. First there is Alky For Applications which can simply be installed. Once that is done the Windows Vista Sidebar can be installed and will be operational afterwards. The pack comes with many gadgets and a tool called Gadget Gallery which can be used to add new gadgets to the sidebar.

Already available gadgets can be added by right-clicking the sidebar and selecting a gadget from the list of installed gadgets. Each gadget can be added by right-clicking it and selecting Add from the context menu.

Even more interesting than this is the ability to download gadgets from the Windows
Vista Gallery site over at Microsoft. It requires some manual work but it’s easily done and works perfectly fine. The gadget needs to be downloaded and unpacked. It comes with the .gadget extension but it can easily be unpacked by most unpackers. Worked fine with 7-zip.

The directory that will be created by unpacking the .gadget file, adding the .gadget extension to the root directory of it and moving it to the Shared Gadgets directory of the sidebar
application.

One interesting feature is the ability to detach a gadget from the sidebar so that it can be moved freely around on the desktop.

The Sidebar requires roughly 20 Megabytes of computer memory when displaying the default three gadgets.

Change Windows Vista Power Button Setting to shut down

Posted by cracksandhacks on December 1, 2008

In vista you would find the default action for the power button on the start menu is ‘Sleep’. It simply puts the computer in low power state rather than shutting it all together .But this may not be necessary or useful for everyone .You may want to the system to shut down directly on clicking the power button rather than making it Sleep. To change this setting simply follow the following steps below-

1. click ‘StartControl Panel’

2. In the control panel , double click the ‘Power Options ‘ window.

3. click the ‘Change Plan Settings ‘ link below the Power saver radio button.

4. click the ‘Change Advanced power settings link

5. expand the ‘Power Buttons and lid ‘ setting.

6. Expand the Power button action ‘ and ‘Start menu power button ‘ options .

7. Click ‘Setting’ and select the ‘Shut down’ option from the drop down list .
8. Once done click ‘Ok’

Now your system will get ’shut down’ instead of ‘Sleep’ when you ll press power Button.

Open password protected pdf files

Posted by cracksandhacks on December 1, 2008

Pdf is one of the most common text formats online. From Ebooks to codes all the available. Reason it’s easy to prevent privacy since once you password protect it no one can copy it. Adobe Acrobat even has settings to prevent underside copying of the file i.e save as text is disabled. But you can use these software to crack open those files .You can remove all restrictions.

Just use any of these fully legal software to do it.None of these are free so if you want full version just do torrent(p2p) download. Let me warn you that cracking open these files is considered illegal so don’t do them unless you have by mistakenly locked your own file.

How to create screensaver shortcuts in Vista

Posted by cracksandhacks on December 1, 2008

Shortcuts in Windows are good, they save time and also are cool.Just think instead of clicking many times, you can accomplish specific tasks in a single click or a single hot key, wouldn’t that increase productivity?

Let us take a look at how to make a shortcut to launch any screensaver in Vista. In Windows, screensavers are having the extension .scr.These files are located in Windows\system32 folder.

If you want a quick look at what kind of .scr files are there, navigate to command prompt ( Start > run > cmd) and type cd /windows/system32.
Once in the system folder, list the scr files with dir *.scr

Suppose,I want to make a shortcut to launch the cool Aurora screensaver directly from my desktop. To do this,I create a shortcut that simply points to that particular .scr file.

To make a new shortcut, right click on desktop (that’s where I want the shortcut) and select New > Shortcut.

The path should be
%systemroot%\system32\Aurora.scr /s

Name the shortcut and it will show up on the desktop.

To see if it is working, simply double click on it and screensaver will launch.

All done.
